Programming the Comdial System
GCA39-814 Rev 3, Issue 9/01 Page 6 Printed in the USA
For example: Prior to patch, Feature Set 14A may have software Release Number 162
After a patch, Feature Set 14A may have software Release Number 170
In the past, while the most recent release number of VMMI and the phone system software
contained the latest maintenance fixes, it could also support systems running earlier feature
sets. Referring to the example above, this means that a Comdial system running release 170
could be running 14A feature set, even though release number 170 introduced the the 15A
feature set.
Be advised, however, that although the system can run an older feature set, you cannot use an
older version of VMMI to program a system with a CCB software level capable of interacting
with a newer VMMI version. If you attempt this, you will receive a restricted log in.
For example:
I currently use 14A VMMI to program my system with 14A Feature set / Release number
162.
I upgrade my release number from 162 to 170 to address an issue. Release number 170
introduces the 15A feature set.
I can no longer use 14A VMMI to program my system. I need to use 15A VMMI.
NOTE: See the next heading for an update to this information as of Feature Set 16A, Release
Number 180.
Common Code Base (CCB) Software and Backward Compatibility
With version 10A of VMMI you can only program a 10A CCB system. The same was true
with 11A and 11B—you needed the same version of VMMI as the system you were
programming.
With VMMI release 13A and later can program earlier revisions of the CCB software back to
12A. For DXP / DXP Plus, and the FX series 96 port systems the VMMI is backward
compatible to 12A. For FXT/FXS systems the backward compatibility only goes to 14A,
since the FXT/FXS was not available prior to 14A.
For example, you have 16A VMMI and you have a DXP with 12A CCB software. You can
connect to the switch and make changes using the newer VMMI.
It is important to understand that when installers program older revision software database
files with the current revision VMMI, the newer VMMI will blank and disable any new
features that do not apply to the older revision software.
