Software Release Numbers and Feature Sets
• Beginning with the software release of 14A, there were two distinct designations for Comdial
telephony operating system software: the Release Number and the Feature Set.
• In general, software requires both maintenance patches and new feature development;
therefore, Comdial needs the ability to release software introducing new features
independently of software released for maintenance issues.
• To meet this need, Comdial labels system software in a manner that separates a particular set
of features (the Feature Set) from the actual build (the Release Number).
• Release numbers are independent of a particular feature set activated on a Comdial system.
The release number designates a particular build of software, but does not define the features
contained therein.
• Release numbers are sequential, and are associated with unique builds of system software
(e.g., Release 160, Release 162, Release 180).
• You can identify the current software release number running on the phone system by
connecting to the system from a PC running VMMI, then selecting the About System option
from the Help pull-down menu.
• Note that the DXP system requires software packages with special software. Since the DXP
has EPROMS, you cannot flash upgrade feature sets and release builds.
• Also note that although the DXP Plus uses Flash RAM, specific software packages on the
DXP Plus cannot be selected in the software. Instead they are activated when the appropriate
dealer software is loaded into the system. This may require the DXP Plus installer to get a
special software key from Comdial Distributor Sales.
Understanding Release Number / Feature Set Compatibility
• A release number indicates a version of software running on a system. Comdial introduces
new feature sets with new releases of VMMI and Comdial system software. To simplify the
task of finding out what feature set goes with what build number (there could be several
release numbers for one feature set because of maintenance patches or software upgrade
issues), VMMI includes a section that relates each new feature set to the software release
number in which the feature set was first introduced:
For example: Feature Set 15A was introduced with software release 170
Feature Set 16A was introduced with software release 180
Patches may be released to address software functionality issues.
